At 24 weeks, the baby is about the size of an ear of corn — roughly 30 cm (11.8 in), 600 g (1 lb 5 oz). What's happening, and what the partner can do.

What's happening this week. The face is almost fully formed, with tiny eyelashes and eyebrows in place. The inner ear is developed enough to give a sense of balance.

Surfactant is the slippery coating that stops the tiny air sacs in the lungs sticking shut — they start making it about now.

What your partner can do this week: Put your leave dates in, and check them with work. Take over one evening routine completely, so your partner can rest. Book an antenatal class if you haven't yet.
