29 Weeks Pregnant: Baby Size & What's Happening

At 29 weeks, the baby is about the size of a butternut squash — roughly 38.5 cm (15.2 in), 1.15 kg (2 lb 9 oz). What's happening, and what the partner can do.

What's happening this week. The skeleton is fully formed but still soft, and it's taking calcium from you daily. The head is growing to keep up with the brain inside it.

The baby now takes around 250 mg of calcium a day — most of a large glass of milk.

What your partner can do this week: Put the big things together — cot, pram — early enough to return anything that's wrong. Plan the route to the hospital or birth centre, and how long it takes at different times of day. Talk about the first weeks at home: nights, visitors, meals.
